Who can apply

General requirements
to open an account

Most UNCDF Bank DRC accounts are open to any Congolese resident aged 18 and above. Junior accounts can be opened on behalf of children by a parent or guardian.

  • Congolese citizen or valid resident permit holder
  • Aged 18 years or above (parent/guardian for Junior accounts)
  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • One recent passport-size photograph
  • Proof of residence (utility bill, LC letter, or lease)
  • Business registration documents (business accounts only)

No. The Ordinary Account requires no minimum balance — you can open it with any amount. Fixed Deposit accounts require a minimum lump-sum deposit which your branch advisor will confirm based on the currency and term you choose.
Personal accounts can be started through the UNCDF Mobile App with a valid National ID and selfie verification. The account is activated after a brief KYC verification. Business and Fixed Deposit accounts currently require a branch visit to complete documentation.
Ordinary accounts are typically opened on the same day — often within 30 minutes at a branch. Mobile app accounts are activated after document verification, usually within a few hours. Business accounts may take 1–2 business days due to enhanced due-diligence requirements.
Yes. Non-Congolese residents with a valid work permit or resident alien card are eligible to open a personal account. You will need a valid passport, resident permit, proof of DRC address, and one passport photo. Contact your nearest branch for further guidance.
Accounts with no transactions for 12 consecutive months may be classified as dormant. A dormancy fee may apply. To reactivate a dormant account, simply visit any UNCDF Bank DRC branch with your ID and make a deposit or withdrawal.
Yes. You can hold multiple account types — for example, an Ordinary Account for day-to-day use and a Fixed Deposit Account for savings. Business owners may also maintain both personal and business accounts under their customer profile.
